Near the end of Part 1 of Ken Burns documentary on the
history of Jazz, the great trumpet player Wynton Marsailles is presented with a
quote from a white jazz player from the 20’s, who had said that blacks had
nothing to do with the origins of Jazz. That it was exclusively a white man’s
invention.
